Personalised bedtime story: your child, hero of their own cartoon

Their name, their cuddly toy, this week's fear or wish β€” and the AI turns it into an animated picture book of 1 to 3 minutes, read in a gentle voice, with subtitles and music. On the tablet in 16:9, on the phone in 9:16, or sound only, lights off.

Why a story where your child is the hero

A child who hears their own name in a story stops listening to it: they step inside. They are the one who tames the monster, the one who flies the rocket, and it is their bunny who comes along. Personalised books from the shops do this with a printed name; here the whole story is written for them, tonight β€” with this week's fear, this month's cuddly toy, tomorrow's first day of school.

The AI Story tool writes the script from your three lines, creates characters that stay the same from one scene to the next, draws every scene, records the voice-over, places the subtitles and the music, then cuts it all together. For bedtime, the illustrated look is the right one: one drawn image per scene, a slow camera move, a voice that reads β€” an animated picture book, the fastest and cheapest of the three looks. The animated and cinema looks are there for the stories you watch in daylight.

Same tool, another audience: grandparents who want to tell a true family story to the grandchildren β€” the country the family came from, how the great-grandparents met, the childhood home. Three minutes at most, a calm voice, and a film to keep.

How to write the story, in three steps

For example: β€œLeo, 4, curly hair, is afraid of the dark. His bunny Pom discovers that the monster under the bed is afraid of the dark too. They lend it a night light and everyone falls asleep.” Three lines are enough; the AI writes the rest and you read it through.

1. Write the story in three lines

Your child's first name and two words that describe them, this week's fear or wish (the dark, the first day of school, the baby brother on the way), the cuddly toy as sidekick, and the ending you want β€” soothing, always. Choose the length (1, 2 or 3 minutes β€” or 30 seconds), the illustrated look, 16:9 for the tablet or 9:16 for the phone, then the narrator's voice.

2. The AI writes the tale, you read it through

The script splits the story into 5-second scenes β€” 12 scenes per minute β€” with the narration and the lines. Every character gets a fixed visual sheet, reused in every scene: the hero keeps the same hair and the same pyjamas from start to finish. In Step-by-step mode the script is free: change a word, a line, the ending, before you pay.

3. The animated picture book lands in your gallery

The scenes are drawn and given a slow camera move, the voice-over is recorded, the subtitles placed, the music composed if you asked for it, and everything is cut into one MP4. Allow about 2 to 3 minutes of creation for 30 seconds of story in the illustrated look (measured on 18 October 2026), more for a 3-minute story. You can leave the page.

A real story created with ToonZap

Five seconds of a story rendered by the AI Story engines (Nano Banana 2.1 keyframe, Seedance 1.5 Pro animation with sound), no subtitles, no editing β€” not a bedtime story, the look itself: characters that stay the same, scenes that follow on. Yours will have your name, your cuddly toy, your ending.

Made with ToonZap
The astronaut and the fox β€” story rendered by the AI Story engines (5 seconds, 16:9, with sound, no subtitles).

Two key images, two opening lines

Taken from real stories created with the tool, each from a single sentence β€” the kind of sentence you write for bedtime.

Orange cat sitting on the rooftops of Paris at night, the moon above him β€” image from a story created with ToonZap
β€œA little orange cat dreams of touching the moon and climbs higher over the rooftops of Paris every night.”
Little girl in a yellow raincoat leaning over a baby dragon in a puddle after the storm β€” image from a story created with ToonZap
β€œA little girl finds a baby dragon in a puddle after the storm.”

Four stories that work at bedtime

The monster under the bed becomes a friend

Fear of the dark, told backwards: the monster is scared too, the cuddly toy holds out a paw, and it is your child who does the reassuring. Give the monster the name your child would give it β€” that is the detail they will ask for every night.

The trip to the moon

A cardboard rocket, the teddy as co-pilot, a moon that smells of cheese or not β€” your call. The plot fits in one wish: to see what is up there. The last scene brings the hero back to bed, the moon in the window.

The first day of school

The night before term starts, a story where the hero walks through the gate, finds a friend, and comes home to tell the day. Name the teacher, the schoolbag, the toy waiting at home: the child recognises their world and steps into it.

Grandad's true story

For grandparents: the train journey of 1962, the first bicycle, great-grandma's farm. Three minutes at most, in the illustrated look, with a calm voice-over. Characters can be built from up to 3 photos each (up to 4 characters), with the people's consent.

What it costs, no surprises

  • Illustrated look, no music: 86 credits for 30 seconds, 134 credits for 1 minute, 236 credits for 2 minutes. Music adds 15 credits per minute started. The exact price is shown before you launch.
  • Every account's first story is 50% off: 43 credits for 30 seconds, 67 credits for 1 minute. The Pack Start (€1.99, 55 credits, no subscription) pays on its own for the first 30-second story β€” and, with the 40 welcome credits still untouched, for the first 1-minute story.
  • The 40 welcome credits do not pay for a story on their own. After that, the Pack Mini (€4.99, 150 credits) covers a 1-minute illustrated story at full price.
  • In Step-by-step mode, writing the script is free: you only pay when you launch the creation. A refused scene is retried, then removed and refunded; a story that cannot be created is refunded in full.
  • On the free plan, a discreet "ToonZap.com" watermark; a subscription removes it, a pack does too for 30 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is the voice gentle enough to send a child to sleep?

The voice-over is an AI voice: you choose the narrator from the voices on offer and listen to it before launching the creation β€” in Step-by-step mode nothing is charged until you have approved the script. The tone is that of a book read aloud, calm, without effects; the characters have their own lines, read by other voices. Mouths do not move in sync in the illustrated look: it is an animated picture book, not a film.

How long should a bedtime story be?

One minute is the right length for a toddler (12 scenes of 5 seconds), two or three minutes for a child who asks for "more". Thirty seconds exists too: it is the cheapest story, and enough to try. Creation takes about 2 to 3 minutes for 30 seconds of story in the illustrated look (measured on 18 October 2026); a 3-minute story has six times as many scenes and takes correspondingly longer. Prepare it in the afternoon, not at bedtime.

Can I upload my child's photo so they really are the hero?

You can upload up to 3 photos or drawings per character, but a child's face may be refused by the image model: that is its rule, not ours, ToonZap does not work around it, and the credits are refunded. The safest route is to describe your child in words β€” their first name, curly hair, red glasses, their bunny β€” the character is invented and looks like them, and the name does the rest. A drawing your child made of themselves, on the other hand, goes through fine.

Can Paw Patrol, Elsa or Spider-Man be in the story?

No: protected characters (Disney, Paw Patrol, Marvel…) are refused by the models, and the scene would be removed and refunded. Describe your own hero instead β€” a rescue dog in a red helmet, a queen who makes snow β€” in an "in the style of" look: the child finds what they love, and the story is theirs.

What if we want no screen at bedtime?

Sound alone works too: the voice-over tells the whole story, the pictures only illustrate it. Play the video on the phone face down on the bedside table, or listen together once and then tell it yourself the next night. One way to do it: the animated picture book on the tablet at the weekend, the listened-to version on school nights.

How much does a bedtime story cost?

The price depends on the length and is shown before you launch. Illustrated look, no music: 86 credits for 30 seconds, 134 credits for 1 minute, 236 credits for 2 minutes; music adds 15 credits per minute started. Every account's first story is 50% off: 43 credits for 30 seconds, 67 credits for 1 minute. The 40 welcome credits are not enough on their own; the Pack Start (€1.99, 55 credits, no subscription) pays for the first 30-second story, and, added to the 40 welcome credits still untouched, for the first 1-minute story. After that, the Pack Mini (€4.99, 150 credits) covers a 1-minute story at full price.

Is there a watermark on the video?

On the free plan, a discreet "ToonZap.com" watermark is embedded. Any subscription removes it, and a credit pack removes it too for 30 days after purchase. The story is yours: send it to the grandparents, keep it, watch it a hundred times.

  • Sound alone tells the whole story: lights off, phone face down.
  • A soothing ending by default: you read the script through before paying.
  • No licensed characters; family-friendly content by default.
